Reducing Welfare Costs and Dependency: How Much Bang for the Child Support Buck?
The report examines the degree to which the nation has been successful in reducing welfare costs through child support, and estimates the welfare savings that might be expected if more fathers were to pay child support. Using its unique microsimulation instrument (TRIM2), the Urban Institute estimates savings for Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), food stamps, and Medicaid, and estimates the government savings per dollar of child support collected.
